#7 The Power of Library Thing

I have been signed up for Library Thing for quite a while now. I do like it -- I have to say though, I use Shelfari much more. It's more ascetically pleasing and easier to use. Plus if you do happen to forget your password on Library Thing, without an e-mail address (which you do not need to sign up -- or you didn't when I signed up years ago), it is nearly impossible to retrieve it. The alternative is starting over. I think I'll stick with Shelfari.

#6 Learn about tagging and discover Delicious

Delicious is not one of my favorite sites. I definitely see the potential for research, especially topical research. It is just not something I have used.

As far as our tag clouds on our OPAC, I have used them. Especially if it was a book that I really liked, I used the tags to view other books on the same topic.

Facebook & MySpace

As of today, the library has 142 fans on Facebook. There are many libraries present on Facebook, which took me forever to find. I stumbled across the libraries favorite pages and found them that way. But a basic search for libraries found hardly any. I don't know if there's anything I would add too it. Looks pretty good to me. :)

Interesting elements on MySpace...hmmmm...I love the background...very fancy, and Shelfari is pretty cool.

As far as social networking, I think that they are pretty similar. MySpace is definitely more visually appealing, although I think it is geared toward the younger generation. Social networking sites are a great way to stay in touch or reconnect with people that you have not seen in a while. As far as the library...I guess just having our name and what we do out there is a good opportunity to connect with those that may not necessarily come to the library. My two cents.
